GERIATRIC NURSING ASSISTANT: CITIZENS CARE AND REHABILITATION CENTER

 

This position performs resident care and assistance duties throughout the nursing service area at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center (CCRC), provides a broad range of nursing-related and personal services for each resident as needed. Supervision is received from the RN/LPN in charge.

Examples of Work

    • Perform personal services for residents (e.g. assist with meals, bathing, dressing, toileting, etc.)
    • Assist with lifting, turning, moving, positioning and transporting residents into and

out of beds, chairs/wheelchairs, lifts, etc. utilizing safe transfer techniques as required by CCRC

    • Promptly inform Charge Nurse of any change in residents’ condition
    • As needed, accompany residents to and from scheduled off-site appointments, activities, etc. (as escort, not as driver)
    • Ensure neatness and tidiness of resident rooms; safely store supplies and equipment out of walkway areas
    • Collect specimens under direction of Charge Nurse, as assigned
    • Complete documentation as required for resident assessments, billing requirements, etc.
    • Assist with activities; respond to residents’ requests; participate with inter­departmental personnel to enhance quality of resident care
    • Obtain and record vital signs, meal percentages and other data as directed by Charge Nurse
    • Perform post-mortem care
    • Actively participate in Fall Prevention and Infection Control programs
    • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications & Requirements

    • High school graduation or the equivalent
    • Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) registration issued by MD State Board of Nursing*
    • Strong, effective and clear spoken and written (English) communication skills,including the ability to follow spoken/written instructions and the ability to accurately record medical information and maintain related records
    • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with elderly/disabled residents and their family members, co-workers and other medical professionals and the general public, including the ability to effectively provide services and assistance to residents who may be physically and verbally aggressive and/or cognitively impaired
    • Ability to effectively organize work and maintain priorities, with ability to appropriately shift focus based on resident needs
    • Physical requirements include the ability to lift, move and assist residents as needed, to move and/or carry equipment as needed; to shift mattresses and bedding; and to perform other duties as listed above
    • This position and the physical workplace may include exposure to air contaminants, hazardous chemicals, infectious waste, diseases and medical conditions, etc. (e.g. Tuberculosis, AIDS virus, Hepatitis B virus, etc.)

PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR: work experience as a nursing assistant or other aide to persons who are elderly or disabled

Additional Information/Examination Process

    • Specified certification/registry must be maintained throughout employment
    • Available for varied workdays and hours when needed (including weekdays, weekends, and holidays)

Notes:

    • This position is subject to random drug testing
    • Candidates who have an equivalent registration from another state must first contact the Maryland Board of Nursing to determine if their state registration is equivalent to the Maryland GNA registration. Determination from the Maryland Board of Nursing must be submitted with the County Employment Application for consideration.
